Saw it last night, thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the best films of the year, and truly visionary use of 3D. No gimmicks, just enhancing your perception of the film , increasing it's layering and making it feel like you are part of the movie. You almost feel akin to a voyeur watching these scenes, with weeds and plants drifting past you.

Not only that, but there's some strong emotional content, too. The nature of the film has been done before, in other films, but never with such gusto and excellence as Cameron displays it here. Everyone involved with Avatar should be proud.

Next up - Battle Angel, Cameron! YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!!!!

Wow, okay. So the big storm this week in comics was apparently Obama and Spidey teaming up in the continuing bullshit that is Amazing Spider-Man following One More Day, but something much, much more important happened in Final Crisis #6.

The death of an icon, ladies and gentlemen. Batman, one of, if not the greatest comics character of all time, is dead. Grant Morrison is either one incredibly smart bastard, or he is so high on the rumoured drugs that he has no idea what he's just done. Regardless, rather than piss and moan about DC and what they've done, I'd rather, for now, embrace this new status quo and see what they do with it.

For now, rest in peace, Bats.

Oh yes. This entry from my reflective diary for my current project reveals all;

"..Okay, so here's the scoop for the past couple of weeks – As of July 15th, I am now a Full Member of the
Society of Staffordshire Artists, after successfully submitting five pieces of work for them to look at, last Friday.
This week, I continued to create my joiners, the first in nearly two months...."

So, yeah. Thank you to the two lovely individuals who conveyed messages of good luck and the like to me beforehand. Your wishes were right there alongside me, and I thank you for that.

Way back in January, I applied to compete for membership in the Society of Staffordshire Artists, a group who hold exhibitions in several different spots around my home county, including the venerable Potteries Museum.

And this Friday, my number is up. I have to take five pieces of art, plus sketchbooks, to be judged by a commitee, and one week later, I will be told whether or not I am a member of the Society.

So, wish me luck, ladels and jellyspoons.
